Covering the rise and fall of Jelly Belly inventor David Klein, Candyman is a true underdog story with a not-so-happy ending. In all, Candyman is an enjoyable view regardless of its length-padding techniques. It was the winner of the Director’s Choice Award at the 2010 Rincon International Film Festival and was part of the official selection at SlamDance and HotDocs.

The 1970s was an extraordinary time of rebellion, of questioning every accepted idea: political activism, hedonism, protests, the sexual revolution, the women's movement, the civil rights movement, the music revolution, rage and liberation. Every standard by which we set our social and cultural clocks was either turned inside out or thrown away completely and reinvented. For American cinema, the 1970s was an era during which a new generation of filmmakers created work for a new kind of audience--moviegoers who were hungry for stories that reflected their own experiences and who were turning their backs on aged old studio formulas.

This is a film documentary made by Chicago native Harley Cokliss, about Chicago Blues and the migrating black community that brought it there. Made in 1972 the political tensions of the late 60's are still an all pervasive presence but it makes for an edgy and atmospheric portrayal of the era and the music. There is some rare extremely excellent footage featured of Buddy Guy, and Junior Wells led by Muddy Waters presiding like a paternal King over his court, playing the infamous Theresa's Club in downtown Chicago, which makes Zep look like Girls Aloud.
